“Proportions of stone” is a modelling experiment on the fundamentality of stone cast away by natural phenomena. Consisting of tables, chairs, and other functional furniture pieces, the dimensions of each piece were determined by the stones borrowed from nature. The shapes and functions of the designs were only formed after. Stones mounted on manufactured steel plates play both structural and aesthetic roles. These juxtaposed mediums are opposite, yet balanced – fulfilling the artist’s desire to “balance the relationship between nature and artefact.”
Lee Sisan is a designer and artist based in Seoul, South Korea. He majored in interior design to explore the relationship between nature, artefact and humans.
