Cranbrook Contemporary Chaise Graduate Woodworking Final Class Project 1990s

A unique collector’s item for design and furniture enthusiasts – a contemporary chaise lounge made by a group of Cranbrook graduate students for a woodworking final class project. The original owner purchased it directly from Cranbrook during a student show exhibition, circa 1990s. The intention of the assignment was to create a furniture item using jointed wood that is pieced together with no hardware. The chaise is a sculptural model and is not made to be sat in. Although it is not functional as furniture, it is a conversation piece from the prestigious Cranbrook schools. From a private collection.
